As a child, I used to have lovely long brown hair that used to go down to my waist. I regret the day I ever decided to cut it shoulder length. I hated my hair when it was brown. I hated the cut, the length and pretty much everything about it! I used to beg my parents to let me dye it blonde. I was desperate. But finally on the 24th October 2012, I finally had my hair dyed blonde. I loved it but something still wasn't right.
I decided to grow my hair. I have been obsessed with the idea of long hair ever since I had it dyed. I'm a massive classic rock fan and I realised I had to grow my hair when men in bands had longer hair than me! Something had to change - so, I decided to set myself a challenge; The Longer Locks project!

My hair as of April 2013. |
I must admit that my hair has grown quite a lot since October but I am going to make a few simple changes to ensure my hair grows as fast as possible! I am going to keep track of the growth of my hair each month and see if my hair grows healthy, thicker and quicker with the changes I make.
What I am going to do to ensure healthy hair growth:
- Daily head massages - This is important for hair growth. Head massages stimulate blood circulation to the hair follicles and therefore induces hair to grow faster. I do a head massage twice a day for quick results!
- No heat - I don't curl or straighten my hair anyway but I try not to add any heat on my hair. Heat makes hair dry and can make it look 'dead'.
- Yoga sessions - Yoga is great for all round relaxation but it can also make your hair grow faster and healthier. I do yoga twice a day and I think it is playing a major part in my hair growth. Postures such as the head stand stimulates blood to the head and benefits hair, skin and nails! Yoga also has great exercises to make the hair become more glossy and adds sheen.
- Hair growth shampoos and conditioners - I have started to use Mane 'n Tail; an excellent shampoo and conditioner that makes hair thicker, fuller, stronger and ensures growth! I absolutely love it! It is really is impacting on my hair and results can be seen from day one! It really is a miracle in a bottle. Read our review on Mane 'n Tail here!
- Leave-in conditioners - I am using Mane 'n Tail leave in conditioner. I spray it on my hair and it makes my hair feel so soft and beautiful. Weekly hair masks and hot oils are great to make sure hair grows healthy and luscious!
- Brushing hair with a wide toothed comb - This is important. When hair is wet it is very fragile! To prevent breakage, you must comb hair gently and carefully. Using a wide toothed comb is the best option.
- Washing hair every 2-3 days - The hairs natural oils conditions hair and once washed away makes your hair feel cleaner and softer. Washing the hair every day strips away the hairs natural oils. If my hair gets greasy I simply rub some talc or dry shampoo into my hair.
I hope this post also helps other people wanting to grow their hair longer and healthier too. I guess patience is another thing to deal with. Hair sadly won't grow over night but at leased I can try to speed the process up! I look forward to updating about how my hair is doing in about a month or so. I can't wait to see if my new hair regime works!
